Infectious disease
Many infectious diseases affect pet rabbits. Some infections are brought in with the rabbit from the breeder or pet store where they rabbit was kept with a number of rabbits. Clinical signs may be obvious e.g. sneezing or diarrhoea. Other infections may be latent and not show obvious clinical signs for several months or years. Wild rabbits can act as reservoirs of infection that can be transmitted to pet rabbits, especially by insects.
Infectious diseases can be divided into several categories: viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal. Information will gradually be added to this page about the diseases in each category.
