Veterinary premises
As with any disease, veterinary premises are a potential source of infection and outbreaks can originate from them. They are where ill rabbits are brought for treatment and infected rabbits may be hospitalised. It is not possible to disinfect all the places (e.g. the car park) that infected rabbits or their owners may have been in contact with. Ideally, all rabbits that are admitted for any type of treatment should be vaccinated against RHDV1 and RHDV2. Careful disinfection of cages and carriers between rabbits and vigilance to prevent cross-infection is necessary.
